Factions is a team-based PvP type gamemode where the main objective is winning PvP fights (Person versus Person), raiding factions, all on your quest to becoming the biggest and richest faction on the server, each faction is able to claim land to build a base on. Claimed land is often protected from being broken by other players who aren’t in the faction or faction members who do not have access to destroying their faction land. Land can be claimed in 3 different worlds, wilderness, the nether and finally the end. In order to get money, consider voting for the server, you will then get a key which allows you to open a vote crate that gives you really good loot to start off with.
Once you create a faction, you should start inviting members who can help you with doing base-work (protecting your base by building walls around it), capping KoTHs (capturing a zone which gives rewards afterwards, so called King of The Hill). Your faction base cannot be destroyed, only on 2 conditions, first one is if you give your faction members permission to destroy land in the base, second condition is having enemies raid you by making cannons which would lead to you losing all your loot.
In order to build your own base and start off your journey in a Factions gamemode, you have to begin by gathering the needed ressources to build your base in a defensive way; most Factions servers have a warp in which you can buy and sell items for server currency. Here in Stellar MC, we have a crates system which allows you to open keys that contain either valuable or valueless items which you get to buy from the server's shop using real life money. As a beginner, you may want to watch out for your faction's power, and power is the ability to claim land. Hence, if your power level is lower than the amount of land you have claimed, enemy factions will be able to "overclaim" you, which basically means they can own that land that was originally yours but it had disappeared because of your faction losing its power. In every factions server, you may notice these 3 things which are crucial in terms of surviving in a factions server:
Raiding is an attack made by an enemy faction, in attempt of stealing its opponent's loot: such as spawners (which add value to your faction's ranking on the server), gear or basically something valuable that would push that enemy faction to protect it. As we stated above, enemies cannot destroy your claimed land, which is the main reason why raiding is mostly done by building cannons which are able to destroy the faction's walls from a certain distance (far from the land they have claimed). Though, there is in fact a one and only item that you can place in the enemy's territory, which are creeper eggs and are mostly sold in the server's shop. Creeper eggs are items that blow up blocks, be it in an enemy zone or an unclaimed zone. Here in StellarMC, the top faction gets 2 different types of rewards, PayPal money and money to use on only the server. And the rewards differ depending on your faction's ranking on the server. (Note: only the 3 top factions get a reward)
A base is a faction's land, which is claimed and protected by at least 1+ walls. As a beginner, you don't need to build a HUGE base surrounded by 50 walls, no. Start off by an underground or sky base, these types of bases are most-likely very hard to find since none has time to look for them, these types of bases don't resist for long and as I said they are only for starters; once you think you're ready to create a REAL faction, then you might want to gather friends and invite trustful members who can help you start your base and get to the top! A rich base is always surrounded by obsidian, cobble or sand walls. Mostly, every server has a plug-in that allows players to lay out walls either horizontally or vertically which makes it easy for you to build walls. Mostly every base's walls need to be watered, otherwise, your enemy is going to be able to cannon through it easily. Because by watering your walls, you force your enemy to build a cannon that works with sand so called a hybrid.
As we have stated above, PvP stands for Person versus Person and it is basically a fight that happens between players where both of them are geared up and equipped with armour and weapons. They both fight and the winner is the one that manages somehow to kill their opponent: which would be caused by two factors: either he is better at PvP, or he has better gear than you. Hmm, "better at PvP than you", you might be thinking "How can he be better at that when we are playing the same game and we know the same things?". Well, PvP mostly depends on strategy:
The 1st strategy that you need to be aware of as a factions beginner is: how to strafe, which is basically clicking on D while hitting your enemy simulatenously or vice versa (clicking on A while hitting your enemy) which mostly leads to your opponent being uncapable of hitting you. The 2nd strategy is W tapping: W tapping is spam clicking on W which allows you to not taking as much knockback as you were taking without clicking on A. The 3rd strategy is block-hitting: which is pressing on the two buttons on your mouse: right click and left click at the same time which allows you to take 50% of the damage dealt to you by your enemy, it may as well slow you a bit, that is why it is preferred to do it when you're standing in a place where you will not take knockback (for example a wall).
Factions Commands that you NEED to be aware of:
